TOOL and Author and Punisher

Words by Matt Stubbs

The opportunities to see bands that you idolized as a kid, and still as an adult are…. well, becoming a bit rare. Tonight, Dustin and I got to witness the oracle of hard rock music. And this deity is named Tool. I’m just going to get to the meat and potatoes because anyone that reads this has probably seen Tool live. And if you haven’t seen Tool, well your loss.

Twenty One Pilots @ Dickies Arena 11.8.19

November 18, 2019

After years of planning and hard work, it was finally time to break in Fort Worth’s latest gem, Dickies Arena. Sure there was a preview concert earlier in the week that was invite-only, but this was the first time the general public was going to get to enjoy a production on a grand scale. And what better way to kick things off then with current millennial heartthrobs Twenty One Pilots

Mastodon & Coheed and Cambria @ Toyota Music Factory 07.5.19

July 06, 2019 in Concerts

Words by Matt Stubbs

Those loud noises coming from Irving, on the evening of July 3rd, wasn’t premature firework celebrations for ‘Merica. It was the muses of the Unheavenly Skye Tour. And the culprits of all the noise complaints made that night was Coheed and Cambria, Every Time I Die, and Mastodon. This guitar-driven shindig went down at the Toyota Music Factory.

Fortress Fest 2019

May 02, 2019 in Concerts

Fortress Fest is an annual destination festival that takes place in the heart of Fort Worth’s Arts District. Now in its 3rd year, Fortress Fest has become a well oiled machine and a staple for the month of April. Once again it featured bands from all over the world, but also shined a heavy spotlight on homegrown Texas bands, including the Sunday night headliner Leon Bridges. With sold out crowds both days, there’s no question it will make it return next year.

Baroness & Deafheaven @ Canton Hall 3.10.19

March 10, 2019 in concerts

Words by Matt Stubbs from the Jerry Jonestown Podcast Show

On Sunday night I had the honor to catch Baroness in concert with tour mates Deafheaven and Zeal & Ardor. This show was at Canton Hall, in Deep Ellum. It was an evening of cross-genre live music, with the exception of Baroness. These three musical performances were very different. But the one thing they all had in common is creativity.

February 18, 2019 in Concerts

It’s night’s like this that I like to refer to as a “Fort Worth homecoming party”, an evening where just about everyone in the Fort Worth music scene can be found under one roof, and for tonight it was to honor Duell as they released their sophomore album Futureless.

Bring Me The Horizon @ Southside Ballroom 02.08.19

February 10, 2019 in Concerts

Bring Me The Horizon stopped by Southside Ballroom Friday night on their "First Love" tour, filling the mid-sized room with an arena-sized rock show. But the big question on everyone's mind was will the change into a more pop alternative sound across the last couple of albums keep Bring Me The Horizon from bringing the heavy that they are known for live? Would they even play any of their heavy material?

Zach & Rebekah - The Engagements

December 01, 2018 in engagement

When you are tasked with shooting the engagements for one of Fort Worth’s most powerful couples, the stress can be a little overwhelming. Luckily, this “Power Couple” is made up of the sweetest and most creative two people I know. In the 5 years (whoa) I’ve known them, watching them grow with each other has been a pure delight. I am excited and thankful to see two awesome and amazing people tie the knot today! Congratulations Zach & Rebekah!

A Better Fort Worth Show @ MASS 9.15.18

September 19, 2018 in bands

Photos by Dustin Schneider/Words by Susie Ramone

Back in May, I met Juma Spears while doing a podcast from Eagle Audio during the recording of Frequencies Volume 9, Fort Worth Weekly's yearly awards show cd. The next day he sent me a message and told me about a crazy idea he had to do a multi-genre show. Juma wanted to put together a line up where people who would normally go to one of his hip-hop shows would hear metal, and someone that would go see a Fort Worth rock band would hear something kind of quirky. He asked if I could help make this happen and so we set to work.

Mastodon & Primus @ Southside Ballroom

May 12, 2018 in Concerts

My good friend Matt wrote the review for the show we covered, so I thought it would be fitting to include it below:

Mastodon and Primus at South Side Ballroom, Dallas TX.

By Matt Stubbs from the Jerry Jonestown Massacre Podcast Show

If there are two perfect matched bands to be on an early summer bill, Mastodon and Primus would be it. These two great bands played on Thursday night at the South Side Ballroom in Dallas, Texas. There was a third band that opened called, All Them Witches, but a stalled El Camino with a sweet wolf sunset decal on the tailgate kept us from getting to the venue in time for them.

Queens of the Stone Age @ The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory

April 26, 2018 in Concerts

Queens of the Stone age swung through Dallas for the first time in five years in support their latest album Villains. In an era of bands playing to synced video back drops and lights, the stage set up was pretty basic, with just a few flexible LED poles placed strategically around the stage. Having a stripped down setup like this allows for the band to change up their setlist from night to night.  While the majority of the songs on the setlist came from from Villains, the eighteen song set covered the entire catalog, including the fan requested Mexicola. As a fan that has seen them on eight separate occasions, I will say this wasn't my favorite set of songs they have done, but that just makes me want to catch them somewhere else this summer.

Bret Michaels @ The Loud and Proud Pre-Race Show

April 08, 2018 in Concerts, bands

Multi-platinum rocker Bret Michaels kicked the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 into high gear when he, along with his band, headlined the Loud & Proud Pre-Race Show Powered by Ashley HomeStores. Bret was the former lead singer of Poison and a staple of the 80’s LA Sunset scene, now he’s on the road with his “Party Starts Now” solo tour. He’s backed by the appropriately named Bret Michaels Band that includes Shawn Hugues on drums, former Cinderella bassist Eric Brittingham, and Jamie Laritz on guitar.  The set consisted of Poison classics like “Talk Dirty To Me”, “Your Mama Don’t Dance”, “Every Rose Has It’s Thorn”, and “Nothin But A Good Time” as well as covers of “Sweet Home Alabama” and the Sublime classic “What I Got”.

Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders - Preview of the 2017-18 Season

January 20, 2018

The final home game of the Dallas Cowboys Season was on Christmas Eve, and as tradition the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders did their Holiday Halftime Show in their red holiday outfits. This is a preview of the galleries I'll be posting of the 2017-2018 season with the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

This game was shot with the Sony a7rIII that Sony sent over for me to test drive. AT&T Stadium is always a little tricky to shoot in, add to that the fast action of the cheerleaders doing their routines and you have a fun environment to put the a7RIII through the paces.

More to come!

Dallas Maverick's Dancers - Dec 2017

December 30, 2017 in Cheerleaders

Another little outing with the Sony a7RIII that was sent to me to test out. This time with the Dallas Mavericks Dancers at the American Airlines Center. An excellent environment to test out the ISO sensitivity, white balance accuracy, and of course the focus tracking. Hip Hop artist J. Cole made an appearance also.
